The Washington D.C. Council recently voted on the internet gambling law that was deemed controversial after it was implemented in a very backhanded way. The council voted on Tuesday to repeal the law, according to the Washington Post.
Internet gambling was an addition on the lottery contract as “non-traditional games.” It was then brought up in the following spending bill, leaving many confused. Because of the language, many council members did not know what they were voting for and led to the repeal, the media outlet reports.
“I want to make sure we get the best deal for the city,” council member Jack Evans, the sponsor of the repeal, told the news source. “I believe it should be set up, so the city gets the best price and the best revenue.”
According to Reuters, the new plan is to start over, where there is no roundabout way of adding it into legislation.
Do you agree with Washington D.C. rejecting the online gambling? Do you think that they will eventually legalize online roulette, poker, slots and lottery tickets?
