While online gambling has been a breakout industry across Europe over the past few years, moves to block its legalization in the U.S. have prevented the same thing from happening in the states. Yet while national laws may prevent the practice from reaching coast to coast, a number of states are deciding the fate of online gambling themselves – with the state of Nevada recently deciding to go ahead and legalize the practice.
Nevada governor Brian Sandoval has reportedly signed an interactive gaming bill into law, giving the state’s gaming commission until January to set up a regulatory framework for an intrastate online gambling industry.
With the passage of this new law, Nevada becomes the first state to legalize online gambling in the country, despite recent motions in California, Florida and New Jersey. It is a fitting location as well, as the bulk of the Silver State’s taxable income comes from gaming revenue in cities like Las Vegas and Reno.
The law also puts existing gambling companies in the U.S. in a strong position to corner the American eGaming market before a wider launch of gaming services is adopted country-wide.
