Churchill Downs is one of the oldest and more storied racetracks in the United States, and even though it’s steeped in history, it still recognizes the importance of online gambling. As such, this year’s Kentucky Derby was one of the best in recent memory.
According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, Churchill Downs recently reported second quarter profit jumped an impressive 45 percent, thanks in large part to the addition of its online betting and casino gaming.
Specifically, the company’s income grew to 40.1 million, which is up nearly 13 million when compared to the same time last year. The improvement appears to be validation of the company’s move to offer more diverse platforms to customers.
"This was the first quarter to fully reflect the impact of our growth-through-diversification strategy that we adopted a few years ago," CEO Robert L. Evans said in a press release.
Churchill Downs originally opened in 1875 in Louisville, Kentucky, and hosted the first Kentucky Derby that same year, and has since become one of the most famous tracks in the country.
