After years of challenges, Illinois recently opened its 10th casino in the hopes of injecting a boost to the state’s economy. The Rivers Casino recently welcomed its first visitors in Des Plaines, the Associated Press reports, and it is quite a sight to behold.
Specifically, the 44,000-square-foot casino features more than 1,050 slot machines as well as an impressive 48 table games including blackjack, roulette, craps and baccarat.
Though it’s the 10th casino to be built in the Land of Lincoln, lawmakers hope that it will not be the last. Legislators recently passed a bill that authorized the creation of five more such buildings in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.
In addition to providing gamers with new places to visit, some state officials believe that casinos are a great way to generate much-needed money, as well as to fix any budgetary problems that many local towns have.
"I think this is a good thing," Illinois Governor Pat Quinn told the AP.
The town of Des Plaines and the state will certainly benefit as they were paid $125 million by the developers.
