Nevada, New Jersey and Washington D.C. have all been mulling over the possibility of legalizing online gambling, and now Massachusetts has thrown its hat in the ring. State representative Dan Winslow recently proposed a measure that would allow certain businesses to operate online poker, The Boston Herald reports.
Perhaps the biggest aspect of the bill is that it would require the Massachusetts Gaming Commission to draft online poker regulations by July 1 of next year. Winslow says that the rules should be aimed at keeping the game fair and improve players’ chances of winnings. Specifically, he said "that poker games have integrity and consist of games of skill and not games of chance."
According to the news source if the Massachusetts legislature approves the measure, it would make the Bay State the first in the country to legalize the popular online casino game.
In other states, similar measures are moving forward albeit at a somewhat slow pace. Washington D.C., in particular suffered a few drawbacks recently when a city councilman called for an investigation after he claims a bill legalizing the passage was snuck past lawmakers.
