Many people know how to play roulette, but they may not know the history of the game and how it was created. Some can agree that knowing how a game evolved may make it that much more fun to play.
The first type of roulette was played in 18th century France. The game as it is played today started in 1796 in Paris, as an early description was found in a French novel by Jaques Lablee. In 1790, the single zero was labeled red and the double zero was labeled black, but the zero spots were soon changed to green to avoid confusion.
In the 19th century, roulette traveled to various casinos all over Europe and the U.S., making it one of the most famous and most popular casino games. When it first came to the U.S., there was a spot for a zero, a double zero and an American Eagle, which was a house slot, but this spot didn’t last very long.
