Gaming companies test waters of U.S. legalization

As the United States inches ever closer to legalizing online gambling, many companies around the world are starting to form partnership with organizations in the U.S. to make sure they have a presence once online gaming comes to the states. The Wall Street Journal reports that Bwin.party is one of the first ones and has been searching for partners for a while.

In particular, the company has been focusing its search on New Jersey, Florida and California, as all three have been at the forefront of looking to legalize online gambling, which was banned in the the U.S. in 2006.

"We are in contract negotiations with a partner from New Jersey," Ryan told the news source, adding that it’s just a partnership and not an acquisition.

It would make sense for the company to get a foothold in the Garden State, as legislators have been especially active about legalizing the practice. The most vocal proponent of the measure is state Senator Raymond Lesniak who believe it’s a smart move given the importance of Atlantic City to the state.
